Arts et Métiers its expertise in artificial intelligence and digital simulation to the GENEX project.
GENEX: a consortium for the aircraft of the future
GENEX, a Horizon Europe project approved in September 2021, brings together 14 partners from seven European countries and two partners from associated countries (see below). This multidisciplinary group covers the entire industrial research and development chain, as it includes six research institutes and universities, seven SMEs, and two large companies.
GENEX aims to develop a new digital twin-driven framework based on computational models that integrate interdisciplinary knowledge of aircraft components and manufacturing and maintenance processes. The objective is threefold: to optimize the manufacture of composite parts, enable continuous aircraft operation, and improve composite repair processes.
The involvement of PIMM and Lampa
Two Arts et Métiers laboratories Arts et Métiers involved in the project: PIMM (Paris campus) and Lampa (Angers campus).
"Our participation is very focused but essential," explains Francisco Chinesta, professor at PIMM, who is participating in this project with Amine Ammar, professor at Lampa. Our role is to balance materials and manufacturing processes and predict their life cycles so that we can improve them. The aim is to design an aircraft that will remain as efficient as possible throughout its service life. You could say that we work like doctors who accompany their patients throughout their lives. In this case, the patients are materials with built-in sensors that constantly send information about their condition."
