First woman to head an Arts et Métiers campus, Catherine Davy has took over as director of the in Angers and the Laval Institute on January 1September September 2022. This marks a new commitment for this female engineer specializing in , aa member of mechanics,mechanics, and a doctor of mmechanics of mmaterials and pprofessor of uuniversities.

Sensitive to the challenges energy, societal, and environmental transitionsShe has been committed to advancing her teaching in materials mechanics and her collaborative research (CEA Marcoule, Orano, Andra). Her most recent contributions focus on the management of radioactive nuclear waste, with the development of innovative and sustainable cementitious materials. She is thus putting her commitment to energy transition at the service of the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers , which is already involved in major building renovation projects.

Adapting our future engineers to climate change: sobriety and sustainable engineering

By taking on this position as director at a time of transition, I want to contribute to training future engineers who are capable of responding to the challenges of climate change and who are committed to energy efficiency and sustainable engineering. I believe that we can be creative, a driving force in the professional world and industry, and be full of hope for our future. With a history spanning more than two centuries, Arts et Métiers lived through industrial revolutions and trained engineers who meet the needs of businesses. Today, we train engineers who are capable of meeting the challenges of smart digitalization and responsible reindustrialization.

With the support of local authorities and the State, the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers is undergoing a major renovation and modernization program. "Our campus will be a formidable tool for creativity, innovation, and excellence in training young engineers to serve local industries and the transitions they are currently undergoing." The Laval Institute, meanwhile, is buzzing with innovation and creativity, with an approach that puts people at the center of its concerns.

Catherine Davy is committed to rolling out the institution's structuring project across the region, with a focus on the agile learning factory (Evolutive Learning Factory), sustainable development, and social and environmental responsibility.

Catherine Davy is a general engineer who graduated from École Centrale de Nantes in 1996. She is also a graduate of École Normale Supérieure, an associate professor of mechanics (since 1997), and a doctor of École Normale Supérieure de Cachan since 2001. After completing a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Cambridge (Great Britain) followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the Faculty of Dental Surgery in Nantes, she was a lecturer and then a professor at the École Centrale de Lille for 18 years. Catherine Davy holds a HDR (Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches, or accreditation to supervise research) from the University of Lille and has spent most of her career as a teacher-researcher in engineering sciences and materials mechanics.
