Some anniversaries are worth celebrating! This is certainly true of the first anniversary of the Chair in Industrial Management Training at the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Lille.

During the first lockdown in March 2020, Nathalie KLEMENT, senior lecturer and head ofIndustrial Management expertise, and Dorine VAN DER WAALS, head of corporate and external relations, wanted to challenge themselves and come up with a new joint project: a chair in industrial management training.

The origins of the Training Chair

"What could we do with these periods of lockdown?" Nathalie KLEMENT explains how their thinking about this training chair came about. After an initial overview of potentially interested companies in the region, they took advantage of a short period of face-to-face meetings in the fall of 2020 to develop their ideas and obtain the necessary approvals from the relevant management teams.

Nathalie KLEMENT continues her story with passion: "We then took full advantage of the second lockdown to prospecting (contacting around fifty companies), hold videoconference meetings with potential partners (around twenty hours of presentations), hold further meetings with confirmed partners (several hours of meetings), and finally conclude with great signature events in spring 2021, fall 2021, and finally fall 2022. The Chair in Industrial Management Training is the culmination of all this joint work and reflection! "

Dorine VAN DER WAALS adds to this by talking about the involvement of sponsors in campus events: " Sponsors have attended numerous events organized to build relationships with our students, including business lunches, site visits, recruitment forums, coaching workshops, and themed workshops."

The objectives of the Training Chair

Today, the Training Chair brings together five players involved in industrial management in northern France and the Paris region (EDF, MC2i, Mov'ntech, Hermès, XL-Groupe).

There are multiple objectives:

  • Step up training and strengthen the link between companies and students;
  • Also enable students to learn more about the sector and the professions, get recruited, and receive training that is closely aligned with the economic sector.
  • Maintain close ties with companies that are experts in the field in order to tailor training to industrial needs.

Concrete examples:

  • Since the agreement was signed, the number of end-of-study internships with partners (overall) has doubled compared to previous years, and one student has been hired.
  • The training program is adjusted based on feedback from partners so that students have the skills expected to enter the workforce.
  • The partners share their expertise and skills through interventions with our students: 22 hours of classes are given by the partners to 3A students.
  • Students work on concrete projects proposed by partner companies.

This allows students to immerse themselves in the working world they will encounter in a few months' time.

Congratulations to Nathalie and Dorine for all their hard work on this Training Chair, happy birthday!
