The 16th edition of the International Conference on Modeling of Machining Operations (CMMO) will take place on June 15-16, 2017, in Cluny, France. The Conference on Modeling of Machining Operations is an international scientific event initiated by Professor I.S. Jawahir ofthe University of Kentucky (USA).

The aim is to stimulate the development and use of models capable of qualitatively and quantitatively predicting the performance of cutting operations on metallic and non-metallic materials, best suited to the needs of the machining sector. This 16th edition of CMMO, sponsored by the International College for Research in Production (CIRP), is an opportunity for experts from academia and industry to present and exchange, at a very high level of expertise, their results in this field of machining operation modeling.

This event is led by Prof. Gérard Poulachon and Dr. José Outeiro, both of whom are professors and researchers at the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Cluny and members of the CIRP. Gérard Poulachon is also the director of the Burgundy Laboratory for Materials and Processes (LaBoMaP EA 3633). All the teams at the research laboratory, comprising around forty people (teachers, researchers, engineers, technicians, and doctoral students), are working together to offer an opportunity for discussion and demonstrations, where participants, experts, and stakeholders in the field can meet at Cluny Abbey.

  • 200 people are expected to attend, representing 28 countries.
  • 20 industrial stands (cutting tools, CAM software, machine tools, surface characterization, instrumentation, etc.)
  • 130 responded to the call for papers.
  • 107 were selected for the scientific sessions
  • 50 manufacturers, companies, technical centers, and organizations will be hosting their stands.
  • 5 demonstrations on:
    • Theme 1: Implementation of ultra-fast imaging for observing planing operations and synchronized acquisition of multiphysics signals.
    • Theme 2: Cryogenic-assisted milling of titanium alloys.
    • Theme 3: Optimization of machining conditions with the integrated AMC3 solution.
    • Theme 4: Benefits of a comprehensive online monitoring strategy for optimizing the wood log peeling process.
    • Theme 5: In-situ thermo-mechanical measurements during stack drilling of a titanium alloy (Ti6Al4V) and carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP).
