Thesis defense by Marc Borsenberger, doctoral student at the Design, Manufacturing and Control Laboratory (LCFC): "Contribution to the identification of the interaction between process parameters and product performance properties: Application to forging and the electromagnetic properties of an alternator pole wheel."

The design of electrical machines tends to incorporate the impact of manufacturing processes with the aim of optimizing the conversion of mechanical energy into electrical energy, in conjunction with controlling the electromagnetic properties of machine components. The interactions between processes, electromagnetic properties, and other material properties have been extensively studied in the case of sheet metal, given its widespread use in the field of electrical engineering and current standardized magnetic characterization methods. However, a claw-pole alternator, used in the automotive industry, has massive components in the rotor for mechanical/electrical conversion. These components, called pole wheels, are obtained through a manufacturing process that includes forging operations, the impact of which on machine performance is still poorly understood. The new issues raised by this type of part have led, in the context of this work, to the development of a specific methodology [...]"
