On November 13 and 14, 2024, students from the Grande École Program at the Châlons-en-Champagne campus mobilized for 24 hours to carry out community service projects for the city, combining creativity and teamwork.
Organized by second-year Gadz'Arts students, this latest edition helped strengthen ties with the city while offering new students a unique experience. This year, projects were carried out at Jules-Ferry Elementary School and the Châlons-en-Champagne prison.
A greening and decoration project at Jules Ferry School
At elementary school, students carried out several initiatives to green the schoolyard, including creating colorful murals and making planters from recycled pallets. This project, supported by parents who provided the materials, aimed to improve the school environment and the well-being of students. In the morning, the children enthusiastically discovered the new installations: "It's so beautiful!", "How did they do it?", "Are they artists?"
Ms. Laurence Durand, the school principal, expressed her satisfaction: "The aim of this project was to green the courtyard as part of a sustainable development education initiative and for the well-being of the students. We proposed this idea to the students, who did a remarkable job, both in terms of decorating the spaces and making the planters. The students were amazed, and the team is delighted with the result. It gives the school a fresh new look."
A revitalized rehabilitation center
At the Châlons-en-Champagne prison, another group of students worked on creating a spiral vegetable garden and rebuilding huts. The aim of this project was to provide a space for gardening, a place conducive to rehabilitation and relaxation. The tasks carried out on this site were mainly focused on DIY and gardening. The students thus contributed to the development of this space, creating a more pleasant and useful environment, while promoting a spirit of sharing and solidarity.
A successful challenge and strengthened ties
After 24 hours of intense work, the students were satisfied with the result. This Grand Challenge helped strengthen ties between the campus and the city of Châlons-en-Champagne, while offering first-year students a real experience of solidarity and teamwork.
This project, prepared since April under the watchful eye of Florian Martz, Enzo Simonneau, Alexandre Leboucher, Thibault Massey, and Chanelle Sanchez, was, as every year, a real success.
