LaboMaP collaborates with the University of Granada, Spain, through three-month short stays for doctoral students. Meeting with Yaiza Fuentes Garcia.
Yaiza Fuentes answered questions from Axelle Pezerovic, a sophomore at Albert Londres High School in Cusset, who is doing an internship on the Cluny campus.
What is the topic of your thesis?
My thesis topic focuses on the integration of poplar wood from Granada as structural timber in order to enhance its value. Currently, this wood is very common but has a very mediocre end use.
How did you join LaboMaP?
I have a strong academic record and have applied for a university scholarship.
What methods do you use in your research work?
We have an experimental part that we carry out in Cluny and an analytical part to compare the experimental results with those from around the world.
What challenges do you face as a doctoral student?
At first, I was working in a company, so research was something new to me. It was unsettling, but with the help of my tutors, I was able to get through it more easily!
How is your collaboration with your colleagues and your thesis supervisor going?
My collaboration is going well. I currently have two thesis advisors, and we are in the process of finalizing the thesis.
What are your career plans after your PhD?
I would like to devote myself to teaching.
