From May 20 to June 17, the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers is pleased to welcome 43 students from Texas A&M University and their professors Harry Hogan and Francisco Olivera as part of the AM² transatlantic partnershipestablished in 2017 between Arts et Métiers Texas A&M. This study trip promises to be rich in discoveries and sharing!
A Study Abroad Program in "Mechanics of Materials," "Fluid Mechanics," and "Manufacturing"
This is the third time that the campus has set up a AM² transatlantic partnership Study Abroad Program for Texas students pursuing a bachelor's degree at .. Accompanied by two of their teachers, they are coming to France to take courses in "Mechanics of Materials," "Fluid Mechanics," and "Manufacturing," which count toward their academic curriculum.
For the first time this year, American students in "Manufacturing" will have their courses taught by Arts et Métiers faculty members Arts et Métiers MSMP (Mechanics, Surfaces, Materials, and Processes) laboratory. This blended format will be developed further in the coming years.
Total immersion
Before arriving on campus in Aix-en-Provence, students will have the opportunity to visit Paris, the Palace of Versailles, and the Louvre. They will be welcomed by Director General Laurent Champaney on the Paris campus. The program also includes Normandy, where they will visit Omaha Beach, the American cemetery where a wreath-laying ceremony will be held, Saint-Malo, and Mont-Saint-Michel.
Once they arrive in Aix-en-Provence, they will be staying in a student residence in the city center, and two engineering students will assist them on a daily basis with their travel and daily activities.
In addition to their course programs (between 45 and 60 hours) in English, they will continue their introduction to the French language and European culture. In particular, they will benefit from a special program to discover Provence: visits to the CEA Cadarache, Aix-en-Provence, and Marseille, as well as typical sites such as the Calanques de Cassis, the Gorges du Verdon, and Moustiers-Sainte-Marie.
Increasingly significant interactions with engineering students
There are plans to develop interactions with Arts et Métiers students Arts et Métiers to promote discussions on issues of acculturation in the field of engineering and on their vision of the industry of the future. Fourteen hours of project-based training are also included in the program. A few American students will join a group of French students and work together on the design of a mechanical system.
There will also be opportunities for socializing. The Texas students will be able to attend the end-of-year ball organized by engineering students, La Nuit des 100 jours, alongside 5,000 other guests. Other festive and sporting events will certainly be organized to help everyone get to know each other.
