Passionate about mechanics and technology, Julien Le Monnier de Gouville is currently in his third year of the Bachelor's program at the Bordeaux-Talence campus. He is also an apprentice employee at the robotics company Nimbl'bot.
Why did you choose to study for a Bachelor's degree Arts et Métiers
From the very beginning, I had decided to pursue a degree in STI2D, even though I had been accepted into a science program. I thought it would be more interesting to specialize in innovation and technology. After graduating from high school, a bachelor's degree seemed like the perfect next step.
What does this training offer you?
The Bachelor of Arts et Métiers a fairly unique program. It provides access to many fields (mechanics, electronics, computer science, etc.), giving students a solid foundation for future success in the workplace. This program also helped me become more independent and professional thanks to numerous group projects, some of which lasted almost the entire year. Finally, the size of the class (20 to 25 people) is a real asset.
What role should companies play in bachelor's degree programs?
The Bachelor's degree is a highly professional program: two internships (in the first and second years) and a professional training contract (in the third year) enable students to gain professional maturity. Throughout the three years of study, field trips are offered to discover companies, industrial realities, and entrepreneurial projects.
I find that this proximity to the company allows for a better understanding of how it operates and the needs of manufacturers. As a result, it is possible to adapt one's learning and actions to meet their demands.
What does your work-study program involve this year?
I am on a professional training contract with Nimbl'bot, a company specializing in the design of an agile robotic arm with a snake-like architecture. It has a variety of applications: for example, it can be used to machine complex parts, or for inspection and intervention in confined and hazardous environments.
I am currently working on managing the European RIMA (Robotics for Infrastructure Inspection and MAintenance) project, in which our company is participating, as well as developing our various prototypes.
This year of training is the most important one for me. It marks my real entry into the world of work, and above all, the application of everything I have learned during my training. I am gaining independence, deepening my knowledge in many areas, and literally becoming a professional.
