Launch of UTOPII: a new unit to rethink the environmental impact of engineering research, based on life cycle analysis

Faced with growing environmental challenges, French scientific research must adapt and accelerate its transformation. In this context, CNRS Ingénierie, Aix-Marseille University, the École nationale des ponts et chaussées (ENPC), the École nationale supérieurearts et métiers ENSAM), INSA Lyon, and Sorbonne University are officially launching the UTOPII Support and Research Unit (UAR) – Transdisciplinary Unit for Guidance and Forecasting of the Environmental Impacts of Engineering Research. Launched in January 2025, the project aims to comprehensively assess and reduce the environmental impacts of French research, particularly in the field of engineering and emerging technologies, through life cycle analysis.

Cluny: a new director at the helm of the Materials and Processes Laboratory (LaBoMaP)

After 12 years as scientific director of LaBoMaP's Wood Materials and Machining (MUB) team, Louis Denaud was appointed director on January 1, 2025, for a five-year term. This is a new commitment for this teacher-researcher, who holds a doctorate in mechanics and trained as an engineer at the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Cluny.

Chal'engeAM 2025 Challenge

The "Chal’engeAM" competition allows students to create virtual reality, augmented reality, and artificial intelligence demonstrators for companies. It is organized by the Institut Arts et Métiers Chalon-sur-Saône, in partnership with local institutions. This challenge is open to master's students in "Digital Engineering" as well as local companies. The competition will take place from January 20 to 31, 2025, with projects being presented on January 31, 2025. Its aim is to strengthen links between academia and industry, prepare students for professional challenges, and promote the digital transition.
