Summary

A wind turbine always allows some of the wind that hits it to pass through, but it changes the speed of the wind. To harness the energy still contained in the wind behind a wind turbine's rotor, a new technology proposes adding a second rotor to the airflow. This second rotor can rotate in the same direction as the first (co-rotating) or in the opposite direction (counter-rotating).

The objective of this thesis is to compare conventional and double-rotor wind turbine technologies in terms of annual energy production and mass.

To do this, a computer model of the behavior of these two technologies is created, taking into account various aspects of the wind turbine (size and shape of the blades, external wind, electromechanical conversion, distance between the rotors, etc.).

Next, optimization algorithms are used to identify the best individuals (or set of individuals) representing each of the technologies. These representatives will then be compared.
