Discover the MORPHO project, which is transforming the aerospace industry for smarter and more environmentally friendly aircraft!

A European project

Launched in 2020, this project is funded by the Horizon Europe program and brings together a consortium of several European research institutions and industrial partners, including France, the Netherlands, Greece, Germany, Belgium, and Spain:

  • Arts et Métiers
  • Delft University of Technology
  • University of Patras
  • Fraunhofer IFAM
  • Galician University Business Foundation
  • Saffron
  • Syntesites
  • Comet Group
  • FiSens
  • ESI Spain

On Arts et Métiers side, which is the projectcoordinator, the PIMM laboratory is responsible for steering the project. This laboratory seeks to address the sustainability challenges of materials for the industry of the future in various sectors (transport, energy, food packaging, health, etc.).

For green aviation

MORPHO, or "Manufacturing, Overhaul, Repair for Prognosis Health Overreach," aims to develop new smart, multifunctional, multi-material aerospace parts (particularly blades), as well as to design, develop, test, and validate environmentally friendly manufacturing processes for these parts. It contributes to the transition to a reliable and sustainable Industry 4.0 aeronautics sector, notably by working on real-time monitoring of the life cycle of parts using embedded sensors, digital twins, and learning algorithms. The sensors present in the structures make it possible to improve the manufacturing process without compromising safety.

The goal is also to define standards that will enable reliable, sustainable, agile, and cost-effective industrialization.

Did you know?

The acronym for the project is also the name of a species of butterfly! They have beautiful iridescent wings that look almost metallic, like airplane wings.
