On Tuesday, December 17, 2019, the first stone of the Cité du Numérique was laid, symbolized by a yellow cube. Laurent Champaney, CEO, and Frédéric Mérienne, Deputy Director of the Chalon-sur-Saône institute, laid their cube alongside Sébastien Martin, President of Grand Chalon, Thibault Duchêne, Deputy Administrator of the Cnam, and Jérôme Gutton, Prefect of Saône-et-Loire.
Laurent Champaney reiterated thatArts et Métiers be a socio-economic player serving local communities and industry. The Image Institute team in Chalon-sur-Saône is therefore participating in this regional development policy with the project to create the Cité du Numérique (Digital City). Sébastien Martin revealed the name of this city: it will now be calledthe Usinerie. This site is part of the Saint-Cosme district regeneration plan and is located in the former white sugar mill on the banks of the Saône, "the first industrial building in Chalon-sur-Saône," explainsSébastien Martin.
This facility will revolutionize digital practices and professions through a consortium of higher education stakeholders in Chalon-sur-Saône. It brings together initial training, continuing education, academic research, partnership-based research, technology transfer, and business consulting in one place, explains Laurent Champaney.
The building will open in summer 2021 and will house:
- On the first floor: a Living Lab, a demonstration space featuring virtual and augmented reality systems, and five classrooms for CNAM undergraduate students in digital studies who will be able to continue on to Master of Science Arts et Métiers,
- On the second floor: a coworking space and the offices of the Image Institute team.
- An extension will house the technical platform with the institute's facilities, such as driving simulators, virtual reality and augmented reality headsets, interactive tables, and the BlueLemon virtual immersion room.
