Arts et Métiers sustainable development into its operations, thanks in particular to France Relance, an exceptional recovery plan launched by the government!

To tackle the health crisis, the government has introduced measures to support businesses and boost the economy. This has resulted in an exceptional €100 billion recovery plan. It has been rolled out in the form of calls for projects to finance building renovation initiatives aimed at supporting the construction sector and reducing the energy footprint of public buildings.

18 projects were selected out of the 24 submitted by the School!

The largest renovation projects on the Angers and Cluny campuses

The largest-scale work will be carried out at the Arts et Métiers campuses Arts et Métiers and Cluny.

Jean Quessada, Director of the Angers campus:

This is a step forward in making our campus greener in a sustainable way.

In Angers, three projects were selected:

Project 1: Complete replacement of outdoor lighting fixtures
By the end of 2021,outdoor lighting will be replaced with LED lighting. This will reduce the campus's energy consumption from 9,485 kWh/year to 2,845 kWh/year. At the same time, the campus will reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 557 kg/year and limit light pollution.

Project 2: Replacement of the waterproofing system on some of the campus buildings
During the year, the insulation and waterproofing of the roofs on some of the buildings will be replaced.

Project 3: Energy renovation of a building housing teaching and research spaces and campus support functions
In 2021, this building will undergo a complete energy renovation (joinery, glass roof, roof insulation and waterproofing, replacement of lighting, ventilation, and installation of computerized heating management).

Julien Roturier, head of the Angers Heritage Department, explains:

We are working on the entire building envelope and its infrastructure.

In Cluny, the selected project will focus on two areas:

Project 1: Renovation of roofs with the installation of photovoltaic panels

Project 2: Renovation of heating systems in teaching and research workshops

Work had already been carried out a few years earlier to reduce the campus's energy consumption. Michel Jauzein, director of the Cluny campus, explains:

The work carried out in 2010-2011, thermal insulation and monitoring of electricity consumption, has already led to a 20% reduction in energy consumption (electricity and gas). The work will enable the objectives of the ÉLAN law to be met: a 40% reduction by 2030, and even a 60% reduction by 2050 compared to 2010.

Projects on other campuses

The other fourteen projects are taking place on the campuses of Aix-en-Provence, Bordeaux-Talence, Châlons-en-Champagne, Lille, and Paris.

It covers the renovation of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, insulation of building envelopes and joinery, improvements to building operations, and the replacement of equipment such as workshop lighting.

In total, a budget of $5 million has been allocated to the school to improve its energy efficiency!
