Marco Montemurro, a research professor at the I2M laboratory on the Bordeaux campus, is participating in the H2020 Parsifal project, which is receiving €3 million in funding from the European Union.

Marco MontemurroThe goal of the Parsifal (Prandtlplane ARchitecture for the Sustainable Improvement of Future Airplanes) project is to design a new aircraft architecture that will carry a previously unthinkable number of passengers (up to 1,500 compared to 300 today) with minimal fuel consumption.

Recognized expertise

The coordinator is the University of Pisa, with five partners from four different countries: Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, the German Aerospace Center (DLR), Italian start-up Skybox, and, on the French side, the French Aerospace Research Center (Onera) and the I2M laboratoryArts et Métiers. This laboratory, located on the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Bordeaux, has recognized expertise in the field of multi-scale design and optimization of composite materials.

Study the behavior of the wings and fuselage

TheArts et Métiers research teamsArts et Métiers studies on the behavior of wing and fuselage structures made from composite materials using new manufacturing processes (automated fiber placement, AFP). More specifically, their work will focus on composites with variable stiffness, i.e., those reinforced with long fibers laid down in an optimized curvilinear trajectory.
Work will begin in early June.
