Is AI unbeatable?

Ready to test the limits of artificial intelligence? We offer a two-part tour:

  1. Diving into AI
Discover the different forms of artificial intelligence and their practical uses in industry: pattern recognition, automated disassembly, and 3D reconstruction using Gaussian splatting. You will also understand the limitations of these technologies, which are far less infallible than we imagine!
  2. The big augmented reality quiz
Bring on the challenge! Two participants equipped with augmented reality glasses compete in a quiz. Each team has support: one uses a traditional search engine, the other a generative AI such as ChatGPT. The answers appear directly in the glasses... but be careful, AI can also make mistakes! A fun and interactive workshop to experiment with artificial intelligence and augmented reality applications, while discovering their strengths and weaknesses.

With Emmanuelle Chavanne and Fabian Magnin

Lightening without breaking: the challenge of 3D printing

Are you able to build something sturdy while saving material? Do you know where the material is useful? We offer a two-step process:

  1. The brick challenge
Build a structure capable of supporting a load using as few blocks as possible. You will discover that in engineering, every gram of material counts!
  2. Imagine, design, print
Become a 3D designer for the duration of a workshop: imagine a piece, design it, and discover the advantages and limitations of 3D printing. Bonus: you'll leave with your own optimized piece, printed just for you!

With Mathilde Zani and Chloé Douin

See the invisible

  1. Explore hidden heat
With an infrared camera, discover how to reveal the invisible heat around you. By heating different objects, you will learn to visualize temperature variations and understand the principles that allow us to "see" heat. A workshop combining experimentation and technology to unlock the thermal secrets of the world around us.
  2. The surprising behavior of liquids
In this second workshop, you will observe how water and other liquids move thanks to capillary forces, and how these behaviors change in microgravity, such as in space. Through simple and fun experiments, you will discover the mysteries of fluids between terrestrial science and space exploration.

With Amine Ben Abdelwahed, Matthieu Lacour, and Abdallah el Malki

Steel in your hands

Welcome behind the scenes of the industry of the future! What if you could transform a simple sheet of metal into a real object? We offer a two-part tour:

  1. Visit to the Arts et Métiers  Arts et Métiers Technology Center Arts et Métiers
Visit the Arts et Métiers Technology Center Arts et Métiers discover equipment you've never seen before. On the agenda: 3D printers, water jet cutting, robotic arms, X-manufacturing platforms, and more. You'll understand how these machines transform ideas into objects to invent the world of tomorrow.
  2. Metal die design
After the tour, it's time for action! You will design your own metal die. Using simple calculations, you will learn how to draw your template, then use tools to cut, fold, and assemble your creation. A hands-on, creative workshop where you can discover the basics of industrial design and leave with an object you made with your own hands!

With Dimitri Jaupart and Tristan De Chazeron

Make or break

  1. Building a bridge – Structural strength
Can you build a bridge capable of withstanding an impressive load using simple wooden sticks? In this workshop, you will take on an engineering challenge: designing a solid, lightweight, and clever structure. You will discover the secrets of resistant shapes, then put your bridge to the test on a testing machine until it breaks!
  2. Fragile fracture and crack trajectories
In the second workshop, you will explore the behavior of fragile materials and see how a single crack can change everything. Using a high-speed camera, you will observe in slow motion the trajectory of fractures on plastic plates that you have modified yourself. A spectacular journey into the little-known but essential world of fracture mechanics.
  3. Mission Python, the Secret Code
A mysterious safe has been locked by hackers... To open it, you must find a 4-digit secret code by solving a series of logic and math puzzles. Each step will give you a key that you can use for the next puzzle. To succeed, it's easy: you'll need to learn the basics of the Python programming language!

With Jean-Benoit Kopp, Vincent Fournier, and Luc Brémaud

Be a hair's breadth away

What if a single hair could reveal unexpected secrets? Come explore the infinitely small and discover how science can transform an everyday object into a fascinating subject of study.

  1. Your hair under the microscope
Delve into the world of hair seen up close! Using microscopes, you will observe its shapes, appearances, and even its inhabitants... lice and nits will hold no more secrets for you. You will discover different types of microscopy and test the mechanical strength of a hair. A surprising moment to understand living matter and address the topic of hair recycling.
  2. Measuring the infinitely fine and long
A hair seems tiny... but how long is it really? Using dimensional and industrial measuring tools, you will assess the thickness and characteristics of your hair. This is an opportunity to experiment with precision tools and learn about the measurement methods used in industry and research.
