2 tons of CO² equivalent per year is the amount of greenhouse gases emitted per person in a CO²-neutral world. It is also the target to be achieved by 2050 in order to meet the commitments of the Paris Agreement: to keep the global temperature increase below 2 degrees.
Ibrahim Demirci, a teacher-researcher, is interested in sustainable development. He volunteered to lead the "two tons of CO₂" workshop as part ofCamte(Convention Arts et Métiers la Transition Ecologique, or Arts and Crafts Convention for Ecological Transition). Here is a look back at the workshop he organized on March 24 with around fifteen students.
An interactive and educational workshop
The workshop is divided into three stages and is based on the target set by the Paris Agreement of achieving 2 tons of CO² per person by 2050.
Introduction and quiz:
The workshop begins with a presentation of about 30 minutes to lay the groundwork.
Next up was a quiz entitled "Find the best solution to reduce our carbon footprint." Questions included "Are humans solely responsible for current climate change?", "What is the international climate goal?" and "What is the biggest source of emissions for the average French person?"
Games:
Then two games are offered. There are 8 rounds in total, including 4 individual rounds and 4 group rounds (1 individual round, 1 group round, 1 individual round, etc.):
- Individual game: each participant has a quota to try to reduce their carbon footprint and is given cards such as "Less car, more cycling and walking."
- Teamwork: one student played the role of prime minister, while the others were ministers. Together, they had to make choices based on the cards at their disposal to collectively reduce their carbon footprint, while staying within a budget of €4 billion. One of the cards, for example, was "Develop and upgrade the rail network."
Results and debriefing:
Finally, there is a discussion about the results, and everyday tips are given on how to reduce your carbon footprint easily!

Ibrahim, meanwhile, is ready to start again next year:
