Health Sector: Research in Biomedical Engineering

Georges Charpak Institute of Human Biomechanics - Arts et Métiers

Arts et Métiers, through nine of its laboratories, focuses its research policy on gaining a better understanding of how the human body works and how it changes, for use in various fields of application (personalized medicine, medical devices, sports, disability, ergonomics, transportation).

The research strategy pursued at Arts et Métiers on a continuum between fundamental and applied research, with the aim of developing innovative solutions that benefit patients:

Each year, the research conducted enables us to meet the needs of around 30 innovative companies seeking technological solutions and scientific expertise to assist in the design of medical devices and routine clinical testing.

A cross-sectional study

The Georges Charpak Institute of Human Biomechanics (IBHGC), with its 2,000 m² entirely dedicated to biomechanics for health, serves as a hub for clinicians, engineers, and industry professionals. Furthermore, the diversity of the laboratories— Arts et Métiers —represents undeniable added value, and the development of inter-laboratory partnerships allows for the integration of a very broad range of expertise in biomechanics (IBHGC), and virtual reality (LAMPA, LE2I), medical machining (LABOMAP), cardiovascular (Dynfluid), cobotics (LML), innovative design (LCPI), 3D printing (I2M), biotechnology (LCFC).

Training

The training courses offered in the field of health are in line with the institution's mission to train the next generation of scientific and technical experts who will be capable of innovating and making a high-level contribution to European and international industry in this field.

Master of Science Research Track)

The BioMedical Engineering program (BME-Paris) offers a Master of Science Research in the field of biomedical engineering, based on a unique partnership betweenParis Descartes University, theESPCI, theENSMP and theENST).

General engineering degree: expertise in "organic"

A course entitled " Bioengineering: Biomechanics and Engineering for Health " is also offered to third-year students to prepare them for the expectations of industry in this field. In addition to lectures, a significant portion of the course is devoted to tutorials on a specialized project developed throughout the first semester, before students complete an end-of-studies internship in a company.
