Guilhem Grimaud, PhD student at the I2M Laboratory - Institute of Mechanics and Engineering at the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Bordeaux, will publicly defend his thesis entitled "Designing recycling scenarios based on process performance evaluation."

The planet is in a state of ecosystem degradation, resource depletion, demographic tension, and climate emergency that is particularly worrying. It is essential to decouple raw material consumption from economic activity. By reducing pressure on virgin raw materials, the circular economy can contribute to the fight against climate change. It is essential to implement solutions to regenerate the materials present in our waste.

The first challenge in deploying recycling solutions in a circular economy is evaluating the performance of recycling scenarios. This research was conducted in partnership with MTB Recycling. Three performance criteria were selected: technical, economic, and environmental.

This multi-criteria assessment enables communication in the form of key performance indicators (KPIs). These allow the eco-efficiency of a scenario to be quickly quantified, supporting designers' decision-making when constructing the offer and developing recycling scenario solutions.
