Large-scale European projects, collaborations, and strategic partnerships: LISPEN’s activities at the start of this academic year highlight the diversity of its contributions to research, technological innovation, and technology transfer to the socio-economic sector in the field of robotics.
CIRCUIT4EU: Launch of European Work on the Automation of Disassembly
The new academic year kicked off on August 26 with the launch of Work Package 3 of the European CIRCUIT4EU project, which is coordinated by Arts et Métiers , with three of its laboratories participating: I2M, L2EP, and LISPEN.
This large-scale collaborative program brings together 17 European partners around a common goal: to develop new solutions for the reuse, disassembly, and recycling of electrical and electronic equipment.
In Lille, LISPEN is leading the work related to the automation of disassembly operations. Work Package 3 of the project aims to develop methodologies dedicated to improving recovery, disassembly, remanufacturing, and recycling technologies in order to build circular value chains for permanent magnets, circuit boards, and electronic components.
This first meeting, during which the teams manually disassembled laptops, allowed the partners to compare their approaches, explore the lab’s demonstration units, and lay the groundwork for future collaborations that will shape the project over the next four years.
API Metrology: A Long-Standing Partnership in Metrology Applied to Robotics
On September 8 and 9, LISPEN welcomed teams from API Metrology to its Lille facility. This meeting was part of a long-standing collaboration that has been underway for more than fifteen years in the field of metrology applied to robotics.
On this occasion, the laboratory shared its expertise through a training program focused on the characterization and calibration of robots, helping API Metrology’s industrial partners build their skills in these technologies.
The discussions also gave the API Metrology teams the opportunity to present the latest innovations in measurement and demonstration systems to the laboratory staff and students in attendance, using the platform’s equipment to provide concrete examples of their applications. This initiative underscores LISPEN’s role as a premier hub for bringing together research, education, and industry, and paves the way for new opportunities for collaboration.
Project Hollow: Moving Toward the Final Phase of a France 2030 Project
Another highlight of the start of the new school year is the continuation of the Hollow project, for which a progress meeting was held on September 10 and 11 with the consortium’s partners in attendance.
Conducted in collaboration with Compliance Robotics and CETIM, this project—supported under the France 2030 initiative with backing from the Region—aims to develop flexible robotics solutions for ultrasonic inspection and non-destructive testing (NDT).
The work currently underway is paving the way for the project's final review, scheduled to take place on campus at the end of the year, which will highlight the progress made and the potential of this technology for future industrial applications.
The Cité de l’IA Data Science Club Hosted at LISPEN
The start of the academic year at LISPEN was also marked by a visit on Friday, September 18, from the Cité de l'IA’s regional Data Science Club, which focused on “AI applied to robotics and physical AI.”
Bringing together some 20 AI experts from industrial companies in the region, this event highlights real-world case studies and a pragmatic approach to the applications of artificial intelligence.
Through discussions in the conference room and tours of the laboratory’s technology platform, this event helps strengthen ties between research and industry while contributing to the regional influence of LISPEN andArts et Métiers in these rapidly growing strategic areas.
From the circular economy to collaborative robotics, including advanced metrology and applied artificial intelligence, these various events demonstrate LISPEN’s position as a leading player in the field of robotics—in collaborative research, technological innovation, and technology transfer to industry. This collective momentum promises to be particularly fruitful in the coming months.
