At the start of the 2025-2026 academic year, the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Bordeaux-Talence will be fully committed to the energy transition with the launch of the EMIX project. A true demonstration of the energy mix, this structuring project embodies the campus's ambition to train the engineers of tomorrow and actively contribute to a more sustainable industry.
A unique demonstrator for a sustainable industry
The start of the 2025-2026 academic year marks a strategic turning point for the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Bordeaux-Talence with the launch of the EMIX project – a mixed energy demonstrator for sustainable development and ecological transition. Faced with the growing challenges posed by the energy crisis, climate change, and the need to decarbonize industry, the campus is affirming its commitment to training engineers capable of meeting the challenges of a sober and responsible future.
The EMIX project will be housed in a fully renovated 2,200 m² building in the heart of the University Innovation Hub (PUI). A true open-air laboratory, technology showroom, and full-scale educational tool, the demonstrator will integrate renewable energy production and storage solutions (solar, wind, hydraulic and tidal, geothermal, biomass pyro-gasification, fuel cells, etc.), a smart energy management and energy performance analysis system (Smart Grid, digital twins), and experimental facilities for research.
Driven by strong regional momentum, this project is part of an ecosystem involving numerous industrial, institutional, and scientific partners (Capingelec, Advtech, Bordeaux Métropole Energie, ENEDIS, Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region, Bordeaux Métropole, I2M, LATEP, IMS, etc.).

Training tomorrow's engineers for tomorrow's energy challenges
The EMIX project is not just a research or demonstration tool: it is an educational catalyst. Through this project, the campus is strengthening its position in training for careers in energy transition. It will enrich the site's training offering by integrating new specialized modules (energy management, low-carbon steering, etc.), supporting the creation of a Bachelor's degree program focused on renewable and green energies, and hosting continuing education courses for industrialists. From their very first years, students will benefit from learning reinforced by experimentation.
On the research side, EMIX will offer PUI laboratories a full-scale tool for developing collaborative projects, technology demonstrators, and transfer initiatives. It will promote interdisciplinarity, the emergence of industrial projects, and the promotion of regional expertise. The demonstrator will enable the simulation of complex industrial environments, in conjunction with the campus's technology platforms, to test energy management in real-world conditions.
Finally, EMIX will be a tool for dissemination and collaboration: a technological showcase for businesses and an awareness-raising space for young audiences, it will facilitate interactions between students, researchers, teachers, manufacturers, and start-ups. This landmark location will help to energize the local ecosystem around energy issues and accelerate the transition of regions towards a more sustainable industry.
