On Saturday, November 15, 2019, the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Clunyreceived the "employer citoyen" (socially responsible employer) certificate from André Accary, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saône-et-Loire Departmental Fire and Rescue Service.
The Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Cluny, OXXO Evolution, and Cluny Town Hall have signed an agreement with theCluny Fire and Rescue Center (CIS) that allows its volunteer firefighters to respond to local emergency needs in Saône-et-Loire.
The Cluny CIS is made up of 32 firefighters: one is employed by OXXO Evolution and two by Cluny Town Hall. As for the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Cluny, it has two firefighters: Pierre-Olivier Laffay, Associate Professor (PRAG) in civil engineering - technical equipment and energy option at the Energy Laboratory, and Fabrice Cottin, Assistant Engineer at LaBoMaP - Wood team.
Fabrice Cottin has wanted to do this job since he was very young, and in 2010 he joined the Cluny CIS. Since 2012, he has been teaching young firefighters sports and first aid. He also prepares them to pass their diploma (which they will obtain after four years) by teaching them first aid and firefighting techniques in simulated accidents.
Without the agreement with participating institutions, it would be very difficult for the Cluny CIS to provide emergency services during the day. These services would then be provided by neighboring centers, which would significantly increase response times. Each intervention allows me to improve my technical skills, emphasizes Fabrice Cottin.
The agreement allows Fabrice to be available for interventions when he is not teaching. Over the last 11 months, he has given 5,648 hours of availability to the fire station (including 722 hours under the agreement) and carried out 300 hours of interventions, including 36 hours under the agreement.
