Professor Junko Morikawa will be honored by Arts et Métiers an honorary doctorate on February 3, 2026.

The title of Doctor Honoris Causa is one of the most prestigious distinctions awarded by French higher education institutions. It was created by decree on June 26, 1918. "The title of Doctor Honoris Causa symbolizes the excellent international collaborations thatArts et Métiers throughout the world, and will contribute to the school's influence and attractiveness on the international stage," explains Audrey Stewart, Director of Strategy and International & European Development.

Professor Junko Morikawa, Dr. Eng., is a leading international figure in the field of thermophysical sciences and advanced materials. A graduate and doctor of engineering from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, she has pursued an exceptional academic career there for over thirty years. A recognized specialist in thermal metrology at the nano/microscopic scale, spectroscopic instrumentation, and materials characterization, she has made a decisive contribution to the evolution of these fields worldwide.

His leadership in international standardization bodies, notably as head of the ISO/TC61 committee, has led to the adoption of more than ten international standards on the thermal properties of materials.

A renowned scientist, Professor Morikawa is the author of more than 160 scientific publications, holder of six patents, and founder of the university spin-off company ai-Phase Co. Ltd., which specializes in sensors and innovative thermal metrology.
