Angéline Eymery, valedictorian of the 2017-2018 class of the Specialized Master's in Quality ManagementArts et Métiers, received the Special Jury Mention of the France Quality Performance Award for revolutionizing Safran's documentation system in record time: in just eight months, from the initial idea to the distribution of the new, fully digital quality manual to Safran's 91,000 employees. The success of this project has triggered a cultural transformation that affects both the dissemination of quality culture and the design of documentation at Safran.
Adapting the quality management system to new ways of consuming information
In awarding Angéline Eymery, the jury praised her leadership of an improvement and change project: "Her work raises interesting questions about the role of the quality manager in the face of the digitization of documentary content and the opportunity to facilitate its adoption by the stakeholders concerned." To build the Quality Manual of tomorrow, Angéline Eymery implemented an approach combining quality management tools (such as functional analysis, the ADEQUA method, and agile methods) with change management tools, involving Safran employees and leveraging their expertise.
Now completely digital, the manual has moved beyond the very limited scope of quality: it is used during induction days for new arrivals to present the Company, promoting a fun and effective dissemination of the quality culture. "For the past three years, Safran has been engaged in an ambitious initiative to share its best practices in all areas, called ONE SAFRAN. This initiative covers work processes, document management, operational excellence and our management system," explains Jean-Philippe Mathevet, Director of Quality Management Systems at Safran SA and Angéline Eymery's mentor. "It is in this context that Angéline Eymery took on two parallel projects: ensuring the consistency of common processes for our 91,000 employees and digitizing Safran's quality manual. She was able to bring to these projects not only the best quality methodologies, but also an excellent knowledge of digital technologies and the tact necessary to win the support of the many stakeholders involved. We were impressed with the result, and the web-based manual is now a cornerstone of Safran's quality system... and Angéline Eymery accepted our job offer at the end of her internship."
A woman in the industry
Angéline Eymery has had an unusual career path. With a PhD in biology, she worked for ten years as a genetics researcher before embarking on a career change by enrolling in the Specialized Master's in Quality Management atArts et Métiers. According to Nicolas Maranzana, head of the Specialized Master's in Quality Management at Arts et Métiers Angéline, who graduated at the top of the class in 2017-2018, embodies the type of engineerArts et Métiers train: someone capable of supporting the technological and digital transformation of industry, which is having a major impact on both production methods and the organization of work."
