On January 22 and 23, 2020, Frédéric Merienne, head ofthe Image Institute at the LISPEN laboratory in Chalon-sur-Saône, and Christophe Guillet, senior lecturer at the University of Burgundy and member of the Image Institute, visitedthe Institute for Information Management in Engineering (IMI) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT, Germany) to discuss augmented reality and virtual reality.
This visit was part of the partnership between Arts et Métiers KIT through the Franco-German Institute for the Industry of the Future and echoed the visit made by IMI members tothe Image Institute in March 2017. During this visit, which consisted of a seminar presenting IMI's research activities with demonstrations and discussions on the future of collaboration, a number of concrete future actions were envisaged, such as setting up European research projects, establishing Franco-German industrial collaborations, exchanges of master's and doctoral students as well as researchers, and the organization of joint seminars combining industry and science.
Among the collaborative projects currently underway between IMI and the Institut Image, Jean-Rémy Chardonnet, senior lecturer and member of the Institut Image, is currently on a one-year research leave at IMI to develop research collaborations between IMI and the Institut Image, focusing on the deployment of virtual reality/augmented reality tools for industry. A joint Arts et Métiers thesis was also initiated in October 2019 on improving the user experience in virtual reality. Finally, a doctoral student from the Institut Image is spending a year at IMI to acquire additional skills in virtual reality.
