The Pierre Bézier Thesis Award ceremony took place on February 14, 2024, on the Paris campus, in the Pierre Bézier amphitheater. This award honors theses in the field of engineering and mechanical sciences.

A prestigious award

The Pierre Bézier Thesis Awards were created in 2005 by the Arts et Métiers Foundation to reward the best doctoral research that has made a significant contribution to the fields of science, technology, and innovation. Pierre Bézier, an Arts et Métiers engineer Arts et Métiers mechanics and electricity, inventor of Bézier curves and surfaces in computer science, dedicated his life to research. 

The 2022 winners

The ceremony began with a welcome speech by Ivan Iordanoff (Director of Research and Innovation) and Fodil Meraghni (Director of the SMI-432 doctoral school), followed by a film about Pierre Bézier and his achievements, in the presence of his family.

This year, Dr. Mickael Haddad, Director of Innovation and Partnerships at Alstom, presented the awards to the winners:

  • Dr. LAPOSTOLLE Lucas, for his thesis completed at the PIMM laboratory: Numerical study of the influence of microstructural heterogeneities on residual stresses induced by laser shock.
  • Dr. NGUYEN Angie, for her thesis completed at the LAMIH laboratory: Contribution to the promotion of open text data in the healthcare sector
  • Dr. Laurent PELTIER, for his thesis completed at the LEM3 laboratory: Development and thermomechanical study of high-temperature, high-entropy shape memory alloys
  • Dr. SHAMI Zein Alabidin, for his thesis completed at the LISPEN laboratory: Vibration control of hydrofoil structures using nonlinear piezoelectric shunt absorbers
