Since 1989, AMJE Bordeaux, the Junior Enterprise of the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Bordeaux-Talence, has been putting the skills of engineering students at the service of various economic players. ISO 9001 certified, it supports a variety of projects in eco-design, prototyping, production, and testing for different types of organizations, from large groups to startups to competitiveness clusters.

AMJE Bordeaux: Engineering Students Working Toward a Responsible Industry 

Founded in 1989, AMJE Bordeaux is the student-run business organization at the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Bordeaux-Talence. Organized as a student association and operating like a consulting firm, it enables students to apply their skills by carrying out projects for businesses, local governments, or individuals. 

Managed by 18 engineering students from the campus’s Grande Ecole Engineering Programme PGE), it offers companies access to a network of 300 students specializing in engineering, as well as one of the largest machine parks at any engineering school in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. In addition, Evolutive Learning Factory ELF) gives them access to all the latest production and design tools of Industry 5.0. The campus’s Technology Hall, combined with the staff’s strong technical expertise, enables them to manufacture and design parts and structures using polymers, metals, and composites, and to deliver a real prototype to the client.

AMJE Bordeaux’s excellence is demonstrated, in particular, by its ISO 9001 certification. A globally recognized quality management standard, it validates an organization’s ability to provide a service, product, or system that meets customer requirements and regulatory frameworks. It is also ranked among the Top 30 best Junior Enterprises in France out of more than 200 associations in the movement. 

With its expertise in design, prototyping, digitalization, and extended reality (XR), AMJE Bordeaux supports its clients in bringing their projects to life. From manufacturing a cooling system for a control board to prototyping a weld inerting device for nuclear power plants, and even creating an automatic cutting and drilling machine for wooden parts, the engineering students Arts et Métiers their skills to a wide range of companies. These include, for example, Thales, a French electronics group specializing in aerospace, defense, security, and land transportation; the Xylofutur Competitiveness Cluster; and Alsymex, a company in the nuclear industry. 

From Concept to Reality: A Wine Dispenser in Supermarkets

Among the companies supported by AMJE Bordeaux is the startup Wine on Tap. Starting in January 2030, supermarkets will be required to dedicate at least 20% of their retail space to packaging-free sales. Wine on Tap has taken the initiative and is developing a bulk wine dispenser. For their project, they chose to draw on the skills and expertise of Arts et Métiers students. 

The specifications require:

  • A product that is well-suited to supermarket shelves and consumer habits.
  • Simplified maintenance for quick tank replacement.
  • A seamless user experience when filling bottles.

The study was conducted by Mathieu Papy, a sophomore in the Grande Ecole Engineering Programme PGE) at the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Bordeaux-Talence. It led to the design, manufacture, and assembly of a prototype that met these requirements, and the startup is now working on scaling up production of the product.

Multidisciplinary engineers: automating the processing of questionnaires for Energie Jeunes

The scope of Arts et Métiers engineering students is Arts et Métiers limited to industry. In fact, AMJE Bordeaux is also capable of addressing issues related to new technologies, particularly artificial intelligence. It is in this context thatÉnergie Jeunes, an association that fights educational inequality, reached out to the Bordeaux Junior Enterprise. 

Objective: To develop software capable of automatically scanning multiple-choice questionnaires in order to process large numbers of them quickly and spare association members from time-consuming and tedious work

Thanks to the students’ work, the software is capableof reading, extracting, and verifying questionnaire data , and it also functions as a standalone application— meaning it can run on any computer without requiring any additional installation.

These projects highlight the interdisciplinary approach and excellence of Arts et Métiers engineering students Arts et Métiers fields such as eco-design and prototyping, as well as their expertise in software development and data processing.
