" Center oExcellence for a Sustainable Industry UTP & Arts et Metiers with l’Universiti Teknologi Petronas In Malaysia : A hub for skills & technological innovation

In Malaysia "... the beautiful unknown of ASEAN", Arts et Métiers is developing collaborative actions by creating a strategic partnership with Universiti Teknologi Petronas, ranked first private university, and second Malaysian university in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2024.

Arts et Métiers' international development strategy aims to support French companies in their international development. Malaysia was therefore a logical choice for technology institution, with over 280 French subsidiaries located there. In fact, Malaysia is currently France's 2nd most important partner in ASEAN, after Singapore.

This is how the CoESIUM" Center of Excellence for a Sustainable Industry UTP & Arts et Metiers, was born in October 2022, supported by the Presidents of Arts et Métiers and UTP.  CoESIUM is a center of excellence and technological innovation, and aims to support companies based in Malaysia and the ASEAN region in their drive towards a sustainable industry, through joint research and training projects (initial and continuing).

A delegation from Arts et Métiers, comprising Ivan Iordanoff, Vice-President of Research and Innovation, Fodil Meraghni, Director of the Doctoral School, Audrey Stewart, Director of Strategy and International Development, and Frédéric Mérienne, co-director of CoESIUM, visited Universiti Teknologi Petronas for the 3rd steering committee meeting in October 2023.

The teams took part in an intense day of work to define actions in training (initial and continuing), research and entrepreneurship. The steering committee was chaired by Prof. Dato' Ts. Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib, Vice-Chancellor of the UTP, and Prof. Laurent Champaney, President of Arts et Métiers, a roadmap for the next 2 to 3 years was drawn up. CoESIUM already benefits from several funding sources, including Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility, 2 programs financed by the French Embassy in Malaysia: Match and MyTiger, as well as research projects financed by industrial companies, notably Petronas.
