From November 20 to 22, 2018, the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Cluny and the MUB team at LaBoMaPwill host the 7th GDR Wood Sciences conference. The objectives of GDR 3544 Wood Sciences are to bring together cross-disciplinary scientific themes, propose coordination actions in the field of education, set up resource sharing, and establish relationships with the national scientific community, as well as the international French-speaking community and professionals.

To each their own local resource

The aim of the GDR's scientific days is to share a common culture. In previous years, this event has been held in Montpellier, Champs-sur-Marne, Nancy, Clermont-Ferrand, Bordeaux, and Nantes.

In 2018, the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Cluny was chosen. Around 200 people took part in these events, including around 20 participants from abroad.

The theme of these 7th GDR days is "To each their own local resource." Behind this title lies the idea that wood is not necessarily a local resource, but that for ecological and economic reasons it should strive to (re)become one. This means focusing on plantation forests, which are often the means of promoting such a resource, provided they are managed sustainably, since demand for wood is growing rapidly.

These days are organized around guest lectures, followed by "flash" presentations supported by posters. Time slots will be set aside for working group meetings initiated by participants, as well as opportunities to discover the activities of the host laboratory and local businesses, and the heritage of Cluny Abbey.
