Thomas Roillet and Daniel Marin are electrical engineering research engineers at the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Lille, within the L2EP. They present their research on citizen photovoltaic self-consumption by 2020.

Funded by the Hauts-de-France region and in partnership with the Solaire en Nord association, this project models the energy consumption of a home equipped with home automation. These models can then be used to optimize the household's photovoltaic installations in order to increase the share of energy self-consumption, i.e., the share of photovoltaic production that will be used for domestic purposes before feeding the surplus back into the grid.

Two models were created on the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Lille:

  • A full-scale model representing a photovoltaic carport that can charge two electric vehicles.
  • A model of a house equipped with home automation, configured by L2EP using KNX software dedicated to home automation.

Thanks to their work, Thomas Roillet and Daniel Marin were able to develop scenarios in which a household's self-consumption share rises to 50% without energy storage and up to 70% with energy storage. For Thomas Roillet, project leader:

These models are a valuable decision-making tool for individuals who would like to install solar panels or optimize an existing installation. Ultimately, we hope that our work will contribute to increasing the share of solar power!
