In partnership with the University Cultural Action Service of the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne and ACCUSTICA (Center for Scientific, Technical, and Industrial Culture), the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Châlons-en-Champagne is hosting a "knowledge café" on the topic "Fuels: from Formula 1 to your engine" on Tuesday, January 23, 2018, starting at 6:30 p.m.

Since its inception 70 years ago, Formula 1 has always been a testing ground for the development of high-performance fuels. The latest version of the F1 regulations, in force since 2014, limits the amount of fuel that can be carried on board the cars. Engine manufacturers must therefore develop highly efficient powertrains. The race for performance between teams necessarily involves improving engine efficiency, and fuel formulation therefore plays a key role.

This event is directly linked to the "Alternative Engines and Fuels" program offered by the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Châlons-en-Champagne to third-year engineering students. The program aims to train operational engineers in all areas related to the production of alternative fuels and unconventional energies, and their use in engines and fuel cells.

Program

6:30 p.m. – Doors open to the public

6:45 p.m. – Presentation by Roland Dauphin: This research engineer at TOTAL, responsible for developing competition fuels, will explain the physical phenomena related to fuel that enable fuel to improve engine efficiency.
