Founded in 1997, the institute specializes in virtual and augmented reality. The institute focuses on the uses of virtual reality (VR), particularly in the application sectors of the industry of the future, driving simulation, health, and training. 

In September 2022, the Chalon-sur-Saône institute moved its offices and technical facilities to the other side of the Saône River, into the former sugar factory buildings. It has moved into a space of over 4,000 m² with three other co-founders (Cnam BFC, UIMM 71, and Usinerie Partners) and brings its expertise in training, research, and innovation, as well as its cutting-edge equipment related to Industry 4.0.

  • 27 people 
  • 12 doctoral students and postdocs 
  • 13 theses defended 
  • 4 jointly supervised theses (including 2 defended) 
  • Revenue from partnership-based research of approximately €700k per year 
  • 5 collaborative projects (2 ANR, 1 PIA eFran, 1 Erasmus+, 1 Equipex+) 
  • 1 Master of Science program: 57 students (including 8 women) graduated: 18% are pursuing a Ph.D., 80% of graduates are employed, and 89% are working in the field of VR/AR and related fields.
