Jean-Paul Gourdin, an Arts et Métiers engineer, Arts et Métiers the technical director of the start-up Elyse Technology, whose challenge is to industrialize pyro-gasification technology in the form of a mobile unit.

Becoming energy self-sufficient

The aim is to promote the development of a circular economy in the recovery of industrial waste and secondary raw materials, and to harness biomass to locally transform potential energy into useful energy (steam, electricity, biogas, hydrogen).

The Combigreeen device uses the Carbolyse® waste treatment process, which breaks down hydrocarbon bonds using heat for either recirculation or energy recovery. This technology produces pure gases that can be used directly.

"The portable device we have developed enables industrial facilities and construction sites to become self-sufficient in energy, while protecting the environment and producing 'green' energy that is independent of weather conditions," explains Jean-Paul Gourdin.

Surround yourself with experts in cutting-edge technology sectors

In order to overcome certain technological obstacles, Philippe Dalles, president of Elyse Technology, draws on the expertise of two teacher-researchers and an engineer from the Aix-en-Provence campus via AMValor, a subsidiary ofArts et Métiers the supervision of projects entrusted to engineering students:

  • A feasibility study for a new high-temperature fluid transfer pump technology is currently underway.
  • Thermodynamic studies assigned to students as part of their coursework (calculation of an exchanger, impact of physical process parameters on the reaction, overall modeling of the process and parameterization of the compounds created, evaluation of the reactor's power);
  • A study on materials, particularly their performance over time under temperature and corrosion stresses, is planned.

"With the contributionArts et Métiers, we are supporting the emergence of innovative technologies that enable us to reduce our carbon footprint. We are therefore seeking to innovate in eco-responsible projects," explains Philippe Dalles.

Cyril Faillat, a teacher, emphasizes the importance for students on campus to participate in this type of technological project.

The students were delighted to be able to carry out practical work based on real-life issues brought to them by professionals. This reinforces the project-based teaching approach.
