A Military Leadership Program soon to be open to students at the Bordeaux-Talence campus

Military leadership training
News

Following on from the partnership with the Ministry of the Armed Forces initiated in 2018 by the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Bordeaux-Talence, an agreement will be signed on September 22 between Arts et Métiers the Ministry of the Armed Forces for the implementation of a one-week leadership training course in a military context.

This optional training course is open to all students at the Bordeaux-Talence campus and will take place during the All Saints' Day holidays so as not to impact classes. Its aim is to develop participants' managerial skills and introduce them to life in the regiment. In a challenging environment, they will take on command and decision-making roles in a stressful and tiring atmosphere, under time constraints.

30 young people from various higher education institutions in Bordeaux, including Arts et Métiers take this training course provided by the 1st Marine Infantry Regiment, the 48th Signal Regiment, and the 31st Engineer Regiment, which will lead to the award of a diploma and a PMT (military ground training) badge. Participants will be subject to the discipline and internal regulations in force within an Army regiment, particularly with regard to compliance with schedules and regulations relating to health and safety at work.

The program is structured around four components:

  • A predominantly theoretical, military, and academic component (presentation of defense and international issues, training in exercising authority, decision-making, etc.)
  • A predominantly physical component (obstacle course, daring track, water course, etc.)
  • Combat training (operational mastery of light weapons, introduction to camouflage, simulator shooting, etc.)
  • Country life and practical field exercises (setting up camp/life in camp, optronic course and night orientation, debriefing exercise with fatigue, evacuation exercise with the establishment of a temporary protection zone, etc.).

Some students are interested in a military career, while others are attracted by the high level of technology and the challenges of the defense industry. All of them must be made aware of the spirit of defense and security, which is inseparable from the formation of citizens. The Military Leadership Period offered by our Armed Forces will allow participants to broaden their horizons, challenge themselves, and question themselves.
