Louis Catar, a second-year student in the Grande École program at the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Châlons-en-Champagne, has started manufacturing visors to help medical facilities during the COVID-19 crisis.

In the context of the health crisis we have been experiencing for several weeks now, everyone is trying to help in their own way. That's why Louis inquired about the needs of Besançon, his hometown. He discovered that there was a significant shortage of equipment for healthcare workers dealing with the coronavirus.

So, from his bedroom and using his personal 3D printer, he set about designing visors to donate to healthcare workers.
To make these visors, he obviously needed materials such as plastic spools, transparent film, etc. To obtain these, he launched an online fundraiser so that people could make donations.

As his initiative gained momentum, he decided to expand its scope to include other campuses and contacted the Gadzarts student union to ask for their help in piloting the project. Today, more than 30 students are involved in the project and can produce 1,000 visors per day. Other students are joining in to reinforce the ongoing effort!

On March 30, Louis delivered 20 visors to pharmacies and nursing homes in Besançon.

Louis used public STL files that strictly comply with medical personnel usage standards. Anyone can reuse them to support healthcare workers and help them save lives.
