On Thursday, May 23, the Bordeaux-Talence campus hosted the final round of the PICTO (Projet d’Initiatives et de Créativité Technique Original) competition, during which first-year Bachelor of Technology students presented their projects on the theme of " How can we improve urban transportation and furniture with an innovative mechanical object/system/product?"

The PICTO competition aimed to create original, innovative solutions based on the theme "How can we improve urban transport and furniture with an innovative mechanical object/system/product?" First-year Bachelor of Technology students were divided into five groups and spent the entire school year attempting to answer this question. After many ups and downs, the challenge came to an end on Thursday, May 23. The five groups presented their projects to a jury of specialists in the field. The jury was composed of Julien Cruz (Sfære-Innov), Pauline Robert-Etcheto (Systra), Jean-François Guilbon (Bordeaux Technowest), Émilie Basque (UIMM Nouvelle-Aquitaine), as well as staff from Arts et Métiers Dominique Scaravetti, Jean-Benoît Kopp, and Philippe Viot).

Among the various projects, it was the Park Up project that won the 2019 PICTO trophy. This fastening system allows users to secure their bikes, skateboards, or scooters using their smartphones or transit cards. Two other projects caught the jury's attention: the Business Award went to the Cross Safe project, which secures pedestrian crossings by rolling out a barrier at traffic lights; and the Audacity Award was given to the Bamier project, in which the group proposed a secure locker installed in urban areas for homeless people to store their personal belongings.

In parallel with this competition day, second-year Bachelor's students organized an event called OpenBAM. Numerous activities were offered, including a barbecue, a concert, and outdoor games (Molki, Chamboule tout, etc.). The purpose of this event was to raise funds to finance part of the second-year Bachelor's students' study trip to Amsterdam in mid-June.
