Redeem Medical called on its subsidiary AMVALOR for a project to recycle used splints.

Redeem Medical 's project consists of collecting and refurbishing orthotics (wrist, ankle, and knee braces, etc.) so that they can be put back on the market. This project is supported by a large ecosystem includingADEME, healthcare professionals, social security, the Department of Health, and the Department of Ecology.

To ensure that orthoses are restored to a functional and sustainable condition, it is essential to check and validate their technical and functional effectiveness.
To this end, Redeem Medical called on students from the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers , which has a working group focused on medical devices.

Initial leads thanks to the Innov’AM challenge

As part of the Innov'AM challenge that took place last December, some students had the opportunity to work on the Redeem Medical project for a week.
The objective was to work on reflection and testing phases in order to propose suitable solutions.
Throughout the week, the students considered technical, mechanical, and automatic means of testing the feasibility of orthotics on the market.
This work enabled Redeem Medical to clarify avenues for their project and obtain broad guidelines.

Continue discussions and studies with AMVALOR

Today, Guillaume Perret du Cray, Gadzart 208 from Lille, and Clémence Cornet, former brand director at the Eram Group, are continuing to work with Jean-Baptiste Croué, AMVALOR, on the research and various studies to be carried out on the subject. They are also addressing the financial, time, and technical aspects of the next stages of the project.

The next phase of the study project with the students is still being developed but will be based on several areas of focus:

  • Design, production, testing, and installation of a means of verifying the functionality of splints intended for the second-hand market.
  • Consideration of the choice of technology, associated costs, and speed of execution.

The project is progressing and should be completed by summer 2024.
