Adrien is a doctoral student at LEM3 on the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers Metz.
On June 8, he participated in the final round of the My Thesis in 180 Seconds competition. Let's take a look back at his already rich and, above all, very committed career.
After completing a preparatory course in physics and technology, Adrien pursued a dual French-German degree program atArts et Métiers and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). He obtained a general engineering degree in industrial management in 2018. He won the 2017 Arts & Métiers Forum challenge alongside ArianeGroup, which he joined as an industrial innovation engineer. He continued to build collaborations between industries and research-based start-ups by becoming a consultant for the Hello Tomorrow community.During these experiences in the field, Adrien discovered the hydrogen sector and questioned its ecological relevance. To answer this question, he decided to begin a thesis in 2020 at the Laboratory for the Study of Microstructures and Materials Mechanics (LEM3), funded by the CNRS.
His research focuses on hydrogen absorption and desorption in MAX phases, MXenes, and their magnesium-based nanocomposites. Adrien is sensitive to the decline of oil, gas, and coal, which he believes will necessarily be accompanied by energy conservation. Nevertheless, for certain uses that are difficult to electrify, hydrogen can take over from fossil fuels in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. To make this possible, Adrien is studying a stable and compact storage alternative, solid hydrogen storage, by trying to absorb it in metals. In the workshop where he works, he deforms these metals in search of the most efficient microstructure. Committed to conducting socially engaged research, he has also been an independent facilitator of climate frescoes since 2021, raising awareness of climate and environmental issues among different audiences.
With a talent for popularizing his field and eager to share his fascinating research topic, Adrien decided to take part in the 2023 edition of My Thesis in 180 Seconds. This competition highlights doctoral research by asking participants to present their thesis topic in just three minutes. His talent as a speaker was recognized, as his performance took him to the national final on June 8 at the Rennes Opera House.
"MT180 represents what I have always loved doing: making knowledge accessible to everyone and deciding together on a social project. In a word, democratizing. For me, this is the key to our resilience to climate change and the necessary transition. This is my professional compass for the coming year... if you have any work in the Lorient area, I'm interested! "
We congratulate Adrien on his achievements and performance in this competition. We wish him all the best for the completion of his thesis and hope he enjoys great professional opportunities!
