As industry transitions into the 4.0 era, students at the Arts et Métiers campus Arts et Métiers have created a digital campus on the Minecraft game to continue student activities despite the health situation.

Complementary Human Training activities switch to remote mode

Following the announcement of renewed lockdown measures at the end of October, second-year students adapted their student activities, known as "Complementary Human Training," which aim to provide them with experience that constitutes a real education. TheStudent associations thus offer aa wide range of activities at a high level of demand and responsibility. In order to continue the mutual learning that is characteristic of this period, they have offered first-year students several weekly activities. The program includes remote meetings and discussions with alumni and students from other campuses, live streams on the Twitch platform, and presentations on the history of the school.

A need remains: to come together

Although the objectives of these remote exchanges were achieved, after a few weeks, students began to express a desire to return to campus. The class of 2020 responded to this need by proposing an original solution. After dozens of hours of teamwork, the first-year students reproduced the entire Angers campus, the two student residences, and the entire Doutre neighborhood on a Minecraft server!

This video game from the 2010s allows users to build large-scale structures on a real scale. By embracing this digital freedom, first-year students were able to reproduce their educational and student life environments in exceptional detail.

On Thursday, November 26, as part of the Complementary Human Training program, students gathered on the digital campus. The program included a virtual tour of the school and the neighborhood, followed by a student activity in the cloister. The event was a success, with more than 90 simultaneous connections to the server and a peak of 200 viewers on the associated Twitch live stream.

In this particular context, students are already considering future activities on this digital microcosm, which may include promotions from other campuses, as well as alumni, whose numerous positive responses testify to a definite enthusiasm.

This virtual meeting took place two days before the digital open house, confirming the ambition of both the students and the school to become increasingly digitally savvy!
